Sundays at Letchworth Baptist Church
Letchworth Baptist Church aspires to know God well and, as the Father’s family of faith, learn to live Christ-like, Holy Spirit powered lives that bring honour and glory to him. We start with teaching and preaching because the Bible is key to both knowing God and a guide to our daily walk. Sunday preaching is available on-line. Our Chinese speaking congregation gathers in the afternoons while English speaking services are held in the mornings.
Sunday Mornings (apart from the 1st Sunday of the month)
Our Sunday morning programme begins at 10:30am and families and children are very welcome. The children go out to Sunday School after worship and a special talk just for them. We aim to finish the service at around midday and then there is time for coffee and chat. Coffee is also avialble before the service starts.
Lighthouse Breakfast (1st Sunday – 10:30am)
On the first Sunday of the month both the English and Chinese congregations gather at 10:30am for Lighthouse Breakfast. This is a wonderful time of fellowship over food (full English or continental breakfast or even bot!). Everyone and anyone is welcome to join us; it is a great way to get to know folk.
Once breakfast is finished there is a brief informal service. We aim to finish for 12-noon or thereabouts. It is a friendly enjoyable, informal time.
There is interpretaion available for Chinese speakers. Please note that there is no afternoon Chinese congregation service on these Sundays.
Feel free to come and join us. There is always plenty of food and coffee so you won’t cause a problem.
Please check regarding Lighthouse Breakfast in January and August
Worship and Word (10:30am)
On these Sundays we devote more time to worship and God’s word.
Agape (3rd Sunday 12:30am)
The Agape is a fellowship lunch which includes a celebration of the Lord’s Supper. It’s a time when English and Chinese congregations can get together in fellowship and join together in Communion. Our communion table is open as is the lunch table and so we welcome visitors.
The Chinese speaking service is normally led by pastor David Chan and provides an opportunity for Chinese speakers to receive teaching and to worship God in their mother tongue. Cantoneses, Mandarin and English interpretation is available. A mixed age Bible school is provided for children and teens.
This does not meet on the first Sunday of the month because the whole church gathers at 10:30am for the Lighthouse Breakfast.
Food and Focus is an informal time of fellowship and prayer, meeting in homes normally on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month. It is focused on two things: specific, strategic prayer for the development and growth of the church as a “Functional Family of Faith” making space so that we can spend time together around a “bring and share” tear; keeping up with each other, which is often so difficult even on a Sunday.
Habakkuk wrote “ I will stand my watch, I will take my station on the ramparts and look to see what he [God] will say to me….” Habakkuk 2:1. This is our aspiration for Food & Focus, that we will hear from God as he leads us to become the church that he wants us to be.
Food & Focus normally starts with a brief inspirational devotional thought, followed by prayer and then we share fellowship around a bring-and-share tea.
Whole Church Gatherings
From time to time, such as English and Chinese New Year, Christrmas Day, Easter Sunday, the whole church, English and Chinese speaking, gathers together for dual language service providing a united time of worship, teaching and fellowship. This is in addition to the monthly Lighthouse Breakfast.
