The Children Desiring God Curriculum

Our vision for the children in our church draws on Psalm 78:2-7 (ESV)

“I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings from of old, things that we have heard and known, that our fathers have told us. We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the LORD, and his might, and the wonders that he has done. He established a testimony in Jacob and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers to teach to their children, that the next generation might know them, the children yet unborn, and arise and tell them to their children, so that they should set their hope in God and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments;”

It is our heart to give children an excellent grounding in the Bible that they might learn of God, come to know him and live with a God-glorifying passion. The Children Desiring God (CDG ) material supports us with excellence in this aspiration.

Therefore, we have based our Children’s Bible school  upon the CDG Curriculum, adapted for our situation. It is an excellent, high quality, systematic teaching programme for children from pre-school to 16 years old. It is designed to teach the Bible in an age relevant way but, continually build on what has gone before. Its goal is to equip children and young people with a thorough understanding of the Bible and knowledge of God, so that they might be prepared for life and be able to live it to God’s glory. It originates in John Piper’s Church, Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis.
